Hosta are invaluable for their bold foliage and for the architectural foundation they afford to shady gardens. The indistinct formlessness of much herbaceous foliage can be given visual meaning when contrasted with clumps of broad bold leaves. Hosta are at their best in rich soil and dappled shade, but we keep nudging them out into more sunny places, where they sometimes thrive and sometimes disappoint.
Our catalog lists 60 some carefully chosen varieties, none of them new cutting-edge cultivars. The photos here represent a handful of our favorite plants.
